Household water treatment changes the supply, but a treated-water label does not prove the rinse is suitable for a coating project. Compare the actual drying result and the treatment system’s information with the preparation requirements.
Identify which tap supplies the job
An exterior tap may bypass treatment or draw from a different source. Confirm the plumbing arrangement rather than inferring it from the kitchen water. Record the source used for the sample area so the production rinse matches the approved test. Changing taps halfway through the job can introduce a new variable.
Separate softening from complete purification
Do not use “softened,” “filtered” and “deionized” as interchangeable descriptions. Obtain the system details if residue is a concern. Evaluate a representative surface after the water dries, along with the cleaner’s rinse directions. The relevant question is whether the process leaves the pavement ready for the intended product.
Avoid unnecessary treatment changes
If the rinse test is acceptable, changing the water treatment setup without a clear reason can complicate troubleshooting. If residue appears, investigate the cleaner, rinse volume, equipment and source water together. Ask the product supplier for an appropriate response rather than adding an unapproved additive to rinse water.
Before you proceed
- Confirm the actual exterior water source.
- Record treatment information accurately.
- Judge the dried test and keep the production process consistent.
Is softened water always better for sealing preparation?
There is no universal answer. Suitability depends on the water, cleaning process, substrate and product requirements.
Connect this decision to the sealing system
Review the related planning guide before selecting a treatment. For film-forming options, compare UltraGloss SX and Ultra Seal Classic Gloss against the actual substrate, preparation and exposure. Product selection does not resolve structural, equipment or drainage problems. Use the Sealer Finder as a starting point, then confirm the current label, technical data and SDS.
