By Scott Colletti, The Paver Sealer Store
Material near a pail rim may look different from the liquid below it. A partly used container also has a storage and exposure history that a new sealed container does not. Evaluate its condition before returning it to a sprayer or blending it into new stock.
Read storage and opened-container instructions
Identify the product, lot, opening date and storage conditions. Some material changes depend on air exposure or mixing history, so a general shelf-life statement may not apply to an opened container. Keep two-component mixed material separate from unmixed components and follow the actual product directions.
Do not force questionable material through equipment
Skins, gel particles, contamination and unusual separation are reasons to stop and ask the supplier. Removing a visible piece does not prove the rest of the liquid remains suitable. Do not thin the product or add another chemical to restore its appearance unless the manufacturer explicitly directs it. Filtering is not a universal cure for degraded material.
Record the decision and protect usable stock
Use the recommended closure, handling and storage process for any retained material. Mark containers accurately so they are not mistaken for unopened stock. If a supplier approves reuse, test it under the specified conditions before committing a large area. If reuse is not approved, follow the SDS and applicable disposal requirements; do not pour leftover coating into drains.
Before you proceed
- Identify opening and storage history.
- Stop when material condition differs from expectations.
- Use supplier guidance before filtering, blending or reuse.
Can I remove the skin and use everything underneath?
Not automatically. The visible skin does not establish the condition or suitability of the remaining material.
Connect this decision to the sealing system
Review the related planning guide before selecting a treatment. For film-forming options, compare UltraGloss SX and Ultra Seal Classic Gloss against the actual substrate, preparation and exposure. Product selection does not resolve structural, equipment or drainage problems. Use the Sealer Finder as a starting point, then confirm the current label, technical data and SDS.
