By Scott Colletti, The Paver Sealer Store
Portable equipment introduces several exposures at once: feet that vibrate, hot exhaust, fuel handling and possible oil leaks. Finish protection is only one part of selecting a safe equipment location. Follow the generator’s operating and safety instructions first.
Keep operating safety ahead of cosmetic protection
Use the clearances, outdoor location and other operating conditions required by the equipment manufacturer. Do not move a generator closer to a building simply to keep it off the driveway. If the safe operating location exposes a valuable finish to heat or fluids, consider a different suitable work arrangement.
Separate refueling from coating work
Plan fuel handling and spill response before the generator is running. Keep coating materials, ignition risks and contaminated cleanup materials under their respective product instructions. A sealer’s resistance claim does not make spilled fuel an acceptable exposure. Never mix improvised cleaning chemicals to remove a spill.
Check repeated contact points
After equipment is safely shut down and moved as directed, inspect feet and the pavement beneath them for abrasion, heat marks or fluid contamination. Compare the area after cleaning and drying. Persistent staining or softened film should be documented and assessed before recoating. Protecting the finish must not interfere with equipment ventilation or stability.
Before you proceed
- Follow equipment safety requirements for placement.
- Keep fuel handling separate from coating materials.
- Inspect feet, exhaust-facing areas and possible leak footprints.
Is a mat automatically a safe generator base?
No. Heat, stability, ventilation, chemical exposure and coating compatibility must all be considered under the equipment and material instructions.
Connect this decision to the sealing system
Review the related planning guide before selecting a treatment. For film-forming options, compare UltraGloss SX and Ultra Seal Classic Gloss against the actual substrate, preparation and exposure. Product selection does not resolve structural, equipment or drainage problems. Use the Sealer Finder as a starting point, then confirm the current label, technical data and SDS.
