When one crew prepares the pavers and another applies sealer, the transfer between them becomes a quality-control step. A short conversation is helpful, but the application crew needs evidence that the surface meets the selected product’s requirements at the time coating begins.
Transfer the scope, not just the address
Identify the exact areas included in the job. Mark exclusions, repairs, different paving materials, and surfaces with previous coatings. Share the approved finish and the location of the test area. This prevents an applicator from treating a decorative border or an old coated section as identical to the rest of the patio.
Confirm the product name and system. Similar packaging does not establish that two sealers have the same mixing, substrate, or curing requirements. Keep the current technical instructions available to both crews.
Explain the preparation history
Record what cleaner was used, where stain treatments were applied, and whether an old coating was removed. Include unresolved deposits or unusual areas. State how rinsing and residue checks were completed. Avoid a vague “pressure washed yesterday” note that tells the applicator little about the actual condition.
Share any joint work, including the joint material and the installer’s requirements before sealing. Point out drains, flexible joints, and adjacent finishes that need protection.
Inspect together when possible
The application crew should walk the surface before mixing material. Check for debris, new footprints, active irrigation, standing water, and contamination from other work. Evaluate moisture and weather against the product instructions. A condition that was acceptable during preparation can change before application.
Use a clear stop rule: if a requirement cannot be verified, pause and resolve it. The crew receiving the job should not inherit an obligation to coat merely because the first crew has left.
Assign responsibility for changes
Identify who can approve additional preparation, a schedule delay, or a change in scope. Keep that contact available during the work. Report unexpected conditions before trying a different chemical or adding an extra coat. Changes should be tied to the manufacturer’s directions and the actual surface.
After application, return the final product record, cure restrictions, and photographs to the project lead. A useful handoff connects preparation, application, and owner care into one documented job.
