A paddle used for one coating can carry residue into another container. With component systems, tool identification also matters before the components are combined. Treat mixing tools as part of material control, not just reusable hardware.

Assign tools to the actual materials

Identify which paddles, measuring containers and transfer tools contact each component or product. Do not return a tool carrying mixed material to an unmixed stock container. Keep labels clear and place tools in a designated area so another crew member does not unknowingly reuse them.

Follow the prescribed mixing procedure

Use the equipment, sequence, ratio and mixing conditions specified for the exact product. Do not invent a universal stirring speed or substitute an arbitrary drill setting. A ready-to-use single-component material and a two-component system have different instructions. Unapproved dilution or leftover mixed material can change the process in ways a visual inspection will not reveal.

Confirm cleanliness before the next batch

Inspect the tool for cured flakes, trapped material and cleaning residue. Use only a cleaning method permitted for the tool and coating, then ensure it meets the product’s reuse requirements. When adequate cleaning cannot be confirmed, dedicated equipment may be preferable. Record any contamination event rather than quietly blending suspect material into a fresh batch.

Before you proceed

  • Identify tools by product and component.
  • Keep mixed-material tools out of unmixed stock.
  • Verify cleaning and mixing instructions before reuse.

Can I use the same paddle for UltraGloss SX and Classic?

Only if its cleaning and reuse condition is suitable under both products’ directions. Do not assume one product’s procedure applies to the other.

Connect this decision to the sealing system

Review the related planning guide before selecting a treatment. For film-forming options, compare UltraGloss SX and Ultra Seal Classic Gloss against the actual substrate, preparation and exposure. Product selection does not resolve structural, equipment or drainage problems. Use the Sealer Finder as a starting point, then confirm the current label, technical data and SDS.
